Senior Backend Developer – Java / Spring Batch / Mainframe Modernization / AI-Assisted Development

Job Description At The Whiteam Consulting, we are looking for a Senior Backend Developer with solid experience in Java, Spring Boot, and Spring Batch to participate in a strategic technology transformation initiative aimed at modernizing Mainframe systems. The selected candidate will work on migrating and evolving critical processes from COBOL environments to modern Java-based architectures, using advanced automation, testing, and AI-assisted development methodologies. We are looking for a profile with the ability to understand complex legacy systems, design modern solutions, and actively participate in building AI tools and agents applied to the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Responsibilities Analyze COBOL programs and JCL flows, understanding dependencies, functional logic, and batch processes. Design and implement target architectures based on: Java, Spring Boot, Spring Batch. Define: Jobs, Steps, Readers & Writers, Chunk Processing, Restart strategies, Error management, and return codes. Develop and maintain specifications using Spec-Driven Development approaches. Build and optimize agents and automations for AI tools applied to development: Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot Agents, or equivalent tools. Implement validation mechanisms and functional equivalence between legacy systems and modernized solutions. Design and execute testing strategies.
